Arbutus menzesii


15 to 120 ft. high, widely branched evergreen tree. Exfoliating bark reveals an exquisitely smooth surface the color of red capuccino. Flowers urn-shaped, like a manzanita's but larger; superb edible berries. Likes sun to part shade and heavy, rich soil. Native to the greater Bay Area. Can be brokered in larger sizes.
