Hazel trees look great in the dappled understory of a larger canopy, often growing as a multi-trunk with a fountain shape. Nuts are tasty and edible but other critters usually get them first. The wide translucent mint-shaped leaves will catch and hold any available light; after the fall drop, they make a rich mulch. Usually wider than tall (6 to 10 feet), this tree grows more compact when wind-clipped.
Uncommon red fall color.
