Serpentine Columbine is a slightly more hardy species than the local Western Columbine, A. formosa; this one tolerates poor soils (clay, serpentine) and drought, so is easier to grow, but prefers a bit more moisture. Rarer to find and can sometimes grow to be 5'. Their spectacular flowers are one to behold, red crown shaped petals with extra long golden stamens gently dangling beneath them (Summer). |
