This is the most local bush mallow species, although 'Casitas' is a selection from Ventura that grows 6 to 8 feet with an upright habit and light pink flowers in late summer. Spreads to form thickets from underground runners.

Felty silver leaves, upright habit, powder-pink blooms. Similar to Lavatera assurgentiflora Native to Shasta to Riverside County including inland Bay Area.

Malacothamnus jonesii  Slender Bush Mallow  Central Coast 
Felty light green to ash leaves, upright slender habit. Pink Mallow flowers from early may to late July; host plant for the Large White Skipper Buttefly (Heliopetes ericetorum). Similar to Malacothamnus fremontii.

Malacothamnus palmeri var. lucianus  Santa Lucia Bushmallow  Arroyo Seco 
Arroyo Seco Bush Mallow is a very rare fast-growing, many-branched large shrub covered with fuzzy green leaves and bright pink blossoms throughout the year. Hummingbird magnet. Similar to Lavatera assurgentiflora
