Satureja

Native Perennials

herb: Satureja douglasii  Yerba Buena, herb
This fast-growing minty groundcover with the heavenly fragrance once covered large swaths of the Bay Area, giving its Spanish name Yerba Buena ("good herb") to the original pueblo that later became San Francisco. A delightful, medicinal, and iconic choice from our local flora that deserves a spot in every garden. Satureja has been changed to Clinopodium by the taxonomists.
